Competitiveness is a very polemic notion that has motivated different debates around it. One of them is refer to the so called “Competitive Cities”, definition under discussion, generally given to those cities that can take part in international markets and national market, attracting investments, generating employment, offering a better life’s quality to its inhabitants and even getting an stronger social cohesion.

For this purpose is necessary first, to explain the scope of notions such as urban competitiveness, competitive advantages and competitive strategies for cities, urban regions and local systems. Second, to make a review of some index for urban competitiveness. Finally, to present a methodological proposal for the construction of a competitiveness index for competitive cities.
